Our History
Hiway was founded in 1931 to serve employees of the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). We’ve since expanded our charter and now extend an invitation for membership to individuals and small business within the eleven-county metro area: Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne, Washington and Wright; or the Wisconsin counties: Pierce and St. Croix.
Today, from our offices in St. Paul, MN, Hiway serves over 90,000 members worldwide and totals over $1.7 billion in assets. Our members conduct their financial business with us in person and via telephone, as well as through our secure Online branch.

Second Harvest Heartland
Volunteers sorted and packed food at Second Harvest Heartland, which works to fight hunger by picking up food donations and delivering them to local food shelves, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior community centers and children’s feeding programs.

Urban Roots
Volunteers spent an afternoon planting apple trees and cleaning garden beds for Urban Roots, a non-profit organization that focuses on building healthy communities through food, conservation and youth development.

Food for Kidz
More than 86 volunteers packaged 50,000 meals for Food for Kidz, a nonprofit committed to feeding starving children around the world by providing specially formulated hand-packed meals that need just boiling water.

Cookie Cart
Volunteers spent the afternoon at Cookie Cart working with the student staff baking, decorating and packaging cookies. Cookie Cart provides teens 15 to 18 years old with lasting and meaningful work, life and leadership skills through experience and training in an urban non-profit bakery.

Love One Another
Hiway volunteers made and packed sandwiches for Love One Another, a non-profit organization that serves the homeless, poor and disadvantaged families in the Twin Cities every night by providing food, clothing, personal care items and on-the-street care and support.
