In response to the growing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Hiway Credit Union members and associates teamed up with the Hiway Credit Union Foundation, donating a total $9,213 to the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). The WOCCU is providing humanitarian relief for those suffering, as well as supporting Ukrainian credit union members and employees. Hiway raised these funds from generous donations from Hiway employees, members and community partners, along with a $2,500 contribution from the Hiway Credit Union Foundation.
"We are humbled by the tremendous compassion our members and associates have shown through their donations supporting this relief effort. We are saddened by the effects of this conflict on the Ukrainian people, as well as the ripple effects for so many all around the world including our own members and communities," said Christine Cordell, Hiway Credit Union’s Senior Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness. "People helping people is the credit union model and through our foundation we are able to deliver on that philosophy.”
The Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU), in partnership with the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), have launched the Ukrainian Credit Union Displacement Fund. This initiative will donate more than half of all dollars collected to vetted non-governmental organizations that are providing emergency humanitarian assistance in Ukraine or in the neighboring European countries welcoming the millions of Ukrainian refugees. The remaining funds, along with continued fundraising, will go toward longer-term Ukrainian credit union recovery efforts once the situation has improved.
