Update (1/19/21) - Lobbies Reopening for Limited Walk-in Traffic
We are happy to announce that we will be expanding our in-branch service beginning Monday, January 25, 2021, with limited walk-in traffic allowed for teller services and additional appointment times for lending and other matters.
- Our drive-thru services will continue to operate as usual
- Our phone lines are available 24/7
As a reminder, for your safety, we do recommend that you use our remote services whenever possible. If you do need to visit us in person, please review our Branch Visit Guidelines for recommendations, appointment scheduling and what to expect when visiting the branch — and please be aware you may need to wait outside or in your vehicle should we reach our capacity.
Previous Updates
As an essential business, Hiway has remained open through the COVID-19 pandemic, serving our members through various channels (and we are so grateful for your loyalty). In recent weeks, we’ve seen a spike in COVID-19 cases in Minnesota and many neighboring states. With the increase in cases, we have had more associates having to quarantine which is having an impact on our operations. We believe it’s important we do what we can to help contain the spread of the virus. In order to protect our members and associates, we will be adjusting how we serve you.
Beginning on Monday, November 23, we will be closing our lobbies to walk-in traffic. Our drive-thru services will continue normal operations, and we will begin offering limited appointment-only services — should an in-person meeting be essential — in our branch lobbies.
For Safe Deposit Appointments
If you need to access a safe deposit box, please make an appointment online. (Advance appointments are required so we can limit contact and take appropriate hygiene steps.)
For All Other Appointments — Give Us a Call
To ensure that an associate is available to meet with you and reduce your wait time, we ask that you please call us at 651.291.1515 or 800.899.5626. One of our associates will be glad to assist you – we may be able to help you over the phone or arrange a video call, to avoid a trip to the branch. If an appointment is necessary, we’ll take care of the scheduling for you.
Please be on time for your appointment, if you are late, you may have to reschedule. It is important that we follow the appointment schedule to allow us adequate time to follow the Health and Safety guidelines we have in place.
Please be sure to view our Appointments Required email notice for additional details regarding guidelines to follow when visiting a branch.
Welcome to September, with its football, bonfires and distance learning. While our summer may have looked a little different than in the past, we hope you were able to get out, enjoy the weather and take in some of our region’s natural beauty.
At Hiway, we remain open to serve you, and, as we move into the fall, we wanted to share a few reminders about how we’re operating during this time.
As a reminder, for your safety, we do recommend that you use our remote services whenever possible. If you do need to visit us in person, please review our Branch Visit Guidelines for recommendations, appointment scheduling and what to expect when visiting the branch.
Leading public health experts agree that wearing a mask is one important step in limiting the spread of COVID-19, and many businesses, municipalities and entire states across the nation are already adhering to this important recommendation and making it a policy. Wearing a cloth face covering primarily helps to protect people around you, including our essential workers, the elderly, and those with higher-risk health conditions.
Beginning on Monday, July 20, we are moving from a policy of masks recommended to masks required for anyone entering our branch offices. Please bring your own mask; should you forget your mask, we may have masks available for you.
As a reminder, for your safety, we do recommend that you use our remote services whenever possible. If you do need to visit us in person, please review our Branch Visit Guidelines for recommendations, appointment scheduling and what to expect when visiting the branch.
Monday, June 8 will be another step toward being able to serve our members in some more traditional ways as we open our lobbies to conduct business. We can’t say enough about the patience and the flexibility of our members during the past couple of months. We’d also like to thank our associates who have worked very hard to serve you while being diligent in keeping everyone safe.
Please review the following Walk-in Lobby Traffic Plan for recommendations, appointment scheduling and what to expect when visiting the branch.
As an essential business, Hiway has remained open to serve you via our drive-thrus and remote channels. In alignment with the state of Minnesota’s health and safety guidelines, we are gradually reintroducing some additional services, including appointment-only services in our branch lobbies, beginning Monday, May 18.

The first of the month can bring with it a number of financial needs and financial to-dos. If you have a list of items to tackle when the new month rolls around, here are a few tips and ideas to help.
If you’re visiting us in-person, please bear with us
Please remember that in-person visits to a Hiway branch are limited to our drive-thrus, which can mean traffic back-ups from time to time. While we have deployed additional staff to serve you, please understand and plan for a bit of a wait, particularly if you’re visiting our main branch on Empire Drive.
Consider our nearby Fort Snelling branch
If you’re able to take a short drive south, our Fort Snelling branch tends to be a little less busy, and our team will welcome you in the drive-thru.
Go old-school – give us a call!
You can take care of most basic credit union business via phone, 24/7.
Go digital
Mobile solutions, including online and mobile banking and mobile deposit, can also help with most of your first-of-the-month needs.
ATMs (search for ATMs near you, including deposit-taking ATMs)
If you need to access a safe deposit box, please make an appointment. (Advance appointments are required so we can limit contact and take appropriate hygiene steps.)
Help for financially distressed members
We know it’s a difficult time economically – if you need help, we have options for you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Please stay safe and take care of those close to you. Our thoughts are with you, our community, our nation and our world.
The weekend is upon us. For many of us, Fridays and Saturdays are when we run our various errands, including making a visit to a Hiway branch. If that’s on your list, we wanted to share a few tips to ensure the smoothest possible experience.
Please be patient
Please remember our lobbies are closed to general traffic, and in-person visits are limited to our drive-thrus. We’ve had a lot of traffic in our drive-thrus recently, in particular at our main branch on Empire Drive. While we have deployed additional staff to help, please understand there may be a bit of a wait in our drive-thru for in-person transactions. We’re doing our best during this unprecedented time.
If you’re able to wait to visit our main branch, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays have shown considerably less traffic, particularly if you arrive mid-morning (generally 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.) or mid-afternoon (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.).
Consider visiting our Fort Snelling branch
If you’re able to take a short drive south, our Fort Snelling branch team will welcome you – they’re ready to serve you via our drive-thru.
As you’ve likely heard, Governor Walz has issued an Executive “Stay at Home” Order requiring Minnesotans to further limit their travel, beginning Friday and extending for two weeks. The order includes the designation of financial services — including credit unions — as “essential services,” meaning Hiway will remain open throughout this time, and that visiting Hiway when necessary to conduct business is considered acceptable travel.
As the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation has evolved rapidly over the past few weeks, Hiway is partnering with members to find solutions to ensure their financial health. Please refer to this recent press release to learn more.
To help keep our associates and members safe during the COVID-19 situation, beginning on Thursday, March 19, all Hiway branches will remain operational, but will be serving you differently. While Hiway branch lobbies will be temporarily closed to the public, please rest assured that all of our business units (deposits and checking, consumer lending, mortgage lending, business banking and investment services, etc.) continue to operate.
Our associates are available to assist you via our drive-thrus, by phone and through all digital channels. In addition our ATMs and night deposits remain open. If you need assistance with a safe deposit box, please schedule an appointment online.
If you have another matter which may require an in-person meeting, please call us at 651.291.1515 or 800.899.5626 to make an appointment. Please understand we will be practicing appropriate hygiene steps, screening and social distancing for any in-person interactions. We are committed to continuing to meet your needs.
If you have a meeting scheduled with a Hiway team member on a loan, investments or any other matter, they will reach out to you to discuss options.
We encourage you to bank with us via our digital channels, including mobile/online banking, remote deposit, debit cards, and electronic payment services, whenever possible. These options can greatly reduce your need to use cash, or for an in-person branch visit. If you’ve never used these before, please call us and we can help you get set up.
Financial Assistance — We're Here to Help
With schools and businesses closing in order to “flatten the curve,” we understand our members may be facing financial challenges. If you have been or will be financially impacted by the coronavirus, we are here to help, and will work with you to find solutions. This could be in the form of a deferred or reduced payment on your Hiway loans or a loan to improve your cash flow, depending on your financial situation. Please contact us to discuss your options.
With the growing concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community, we want to assure you that we are closely monitoring conditions. Our primary focus is on the safety and well-being of our members, our associates and our communities. We have a business continuity plan in place, and we are following that plan as the situation evolves. At this time, we are focused on preventive efforts to keep our associates and members safe and minimize risk to our operations. We are following the CDC’s recommendations as well as taking additional precautions, and we encourage you to do the same:
- Stay home if you are sick or are in close contact with someone who is.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and/or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly (with at least 60% alcohol).
- Cover sneezes and coughs with a tissue and dispose of it properly.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Regularly clean and disinfect all work areas and high-contact surfaces.
In addition, we wanted to let you know that you may notice some additional preventative steps in our branches:
- Associates, in some cases, may be wearing gloves when handling cash.
- Associates, in some cases, may be working from home.
- We will greet you with a smile instead of a handshake.
