Hiway Remembers Fallen Workers
(Roseville, MN) May 5, 2006 – Hiway Federal Credit Union (Hiway) participated in the observance of Workers’ Memorial Day on Friday, April 28, 2006. Workers’ Memorial Day commemorates Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) workers who were injured or killed on the job.
Jeff Schwalen, Hiway President, and Carol Molnau, Transportation Commissioner, spoke at Mn/DOT's District Headquarters on April 28, 2006, to remember Mn/DOT employees who have lost their lives on the job.
Hiway employees observed a moment of silence at 2:00 p.m. on April 28, 2006 to honor the 29 Mn/DOT employees killed while working on Minnesota highways since 1960. An empty chair memorial also remained in the credit union offices during the week to commemorate the event.
Workers' Memorial Day began in 1989 and shares the anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as a similar day of remembrance in Canada.
