Mayor Chris Coleman Visits Hiway Sponsored V.I.T.A Site at Roosevelt Public Housing

(St. Paul, MN) February 20, 2007 – St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman held a press conference at the Roosevelt Community Center, to launch the newest Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Site (V.I.T.A.). During the press conference, the mayor commended the V.I.T.A. sites for their work with modest means families.

V.I.T.A is a free tax-preparation program and is run by the Minnesota Department of Revenue. V.I.T.A. is hosted in various locations throughout the Twin Cities. The Roosevelt Community Center is the newest V.I.T.A. site, providing free tax-preparation for low-income, disabled, English and non-English speaking and elderly families.

Hiway Federal Credit Union (Hiway) is proud to be the sole fiscal sponsor of Roosevelt. Hiway has been the sole fiscal sponsor of the Mt. Airy V.I.T.A. site for the past five years, contributing to its success as the largest V.I.T.A site in the state. Hiway provides resources including literature and bilingual staff who are onsite throughout the program to translate and coordinate documents. The Roosevelt site is also staffed by volunteers of Roosevelt Public Housing & Ames Lake Housing.

"This would not have been possible without the continued support of Hiway and its strong value and mission of giving back to the community," says Richard Som of the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

The Roosevelt V.I.T.A site will be available every Monday and Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. through April 10.
