Jeff Schwalen Honored as Volunteer of the Year by Credit Unions for Kids Committee
(St. Paul, Minnesota) April 18, 2008 – Hiway Federal Credit Union (Hiway) is pleased to recognize Jeff Schwalen, President and CEO of Hiway for receiving the award for Volunteer of the Year from the Credit Unions for Kids (CUFK) committee. The award was given to recognize his hard work and dedication in furthering the mission of the CUFK programs in Minnesota credit unions.
CUFK is a collaboration of credit unions, chapters, leagues and business partners engaged in fund raising activities to benefit 170 Children's Miracle Network affiliated children's hospitals serving 17 million kids, while gaining numerous benefits for credit unions.
Hiway was also recognized as one of the state’s top three fundraising credit unions by contributions per member, receiving an award for third place having raised $.63 per member.
"Although I didn't start out the year in pursuit of the Volunteer of the Year Award, it is such an honor to receive it," said Schwalen. "I have always felt that we should help out those who can least fend for themselves and helping children with major medical issues is a great way to do just that."
One hundred percent of every dollar contributed to Children's Miracle Network through the CUFK program remains in the community where it was donated. In Minnesota and western Wisconsin, Children's Miracle Network benefits Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare—raising over $2.5 million in 2005 alone. The hospitals that benefit from Children's Miracle Network donations treat children regardless of their prognosis or the family's ability to pay.
